Fayetteville, Arkansas- On September 9th, 2013 Houston Rockets guard Ronnie Brewer Jr. donated 100,000 to the Fayetteville Boys & Girls Club. Brewer is a Fayetteville native who utilized the club growing up. The donation on behalf of the Ronnie Brewer Foundation is the first in a series of installments meant to fund a new basketball facility for the Boys & Girls Club. The gymnasium will be named for the 28-year-old Brewer. “I am excited about this gym and the opportunity to give back to the kids of this community”, says Brewer.

The gymnasium will be built behind the Boys & Girls Club, and will be similar to the size of a basketball arena already on site. Brewer said the purpose of a new facility is to meet the club’s growing demand for space.Brewer is known for his philanthropic efforts, being honored with the Silas Hunt Award in 2009 for his donation of $50,000 to the University of Arkansas journalism scholarship fund. He is also an active participant in The Ronnie Brewer Foundation, whose mission is to aid in the educational and athletic development of his community’s youth through sports and recreation.
Brewer is entering his eighth season in the NBA and signed a two-year contract last month with the Houston Rockets. In his seven seasons as a professional, Brewer has averaged 8.2 points and 3 rebounds per game while playing with the Jazz, Bulls, Knicks and Thunder.
