NBA basketball player Ronnie Brewer Jr. has teamed up with Miracle Babies during the month of November to share his story about how he was born prematurely.

Ronnie Brewer Jr. was born premature. 4 weeks early to be exact. It’s a miracle in itself that he was born because his mother’s water broke two weeks prior and she had no clue. It wasn’t until two weeks later that she knew something was wrong and had Ronnie’s older brother Kenny call 911.

Ronnie was so small, he couldn’t fit regular baby clothing so they dressed him in his sister Candice’s cabbage patch doll’s clothing. Ronnie was 2lbs at birth. The NICU was so full that Ronnie’s incubator sat on a window seal. The doctors advised Mrs. Brewer to contact her husband Ron Brewer Sr. (who had been recently traded to the New Jersey Nets), her pastor and immediate family, as they didn’t believe Ronnie would not make it through the night. Mrs. Brewer’s mother arrived the next day, prayed with her and told her that Ronnie would not only survive but that he would be her biggest baby ever.

After lots of care and treatment, Ronnie was released from the hospital after 4 weeks. He was still very tiny. He was so small that when his dad finally met him (2 months after his birth due to NBA season schedule travel) he was afraid to hold him. Ronnie was so small, he couldn’t fit regular baby clothing so they dressed him in his sister Candice’s cabbage patch doll’s clothing.
